Del Irani is a U.S.-based, award-winning journalist & TV anchor who’s hosted shows on BBC World News, ABC News (Australia) and NHK World-Japan. She serves as a Goodwill Ambassador for World Vision Australia.
She currently anchors “Deeper Look from New York” on NHK World-Japan, a current affairs show featuring in-depth interviews with experts in politics, business, global affairs and socio-cultural issues. Del is also a host on the lifestyle program “Escape From The City” on ABC TV in Australia, which is based on the popular BBC show “Escape to the Country” in the U.K. The show follows ordinary people who are looking to leave the hustle and bustle of the city and helps them find their dream home in greener pastures.
Previously, Del was one of the main anchors on Australia’s national TV morning show, “ABC News Breakfast.” From 2013-2016, she was one of the creators and the anchor of the award-winning talk show, “#TalkAboutIt.” She was also Fact Check Anchor for RMIT ABC News in 2017 and 2018.
A former BBC World News anchor and correspondent, Del was appointed Mumbai Correspondent for BBC World News in 2009 and also became the anchor of “India Business Report,” a weekly show broadcast to 77 million people. During her time at the BBC, she provided live coverage of breaking stories, including the trial of the lone surviving gunman in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
Del has been a regular moderator for the United Nations (UN), hosting regional conferences for the International Labour Organization (ILO). She is also a former board member of the Western Bulldogs Football Club Community Foundation.
Del started her career in journalism as field producer, traveling and living in many different countries including Bermuda, Panama, Belgium and Dubai. She immigrated to Australia from Mumbai with her family when she was 8 years old. After growing up in Sydney, Del completed her degree on a scholarship at the University of California, Berkeley.
